Tom, W3KGL, Report

You may have heard that Tom, W3KGL, is in San Rafael, CA, getting his new guide dog. He now reports that on Monday, 4/30, he met his new helper. The two of them begin training together on Tuesday, 5/1. Here's what Tom has to say:

"Today I received a really neat female golden retriever named Lindy. She weighs 73 lb., stands 24 in. at the shoulder and will turn 2 years old in October of this year.

I call her 'my Lucky Lindy.' She is a real sweetheart and she is full of energy.

Tomorrow we begin our guide work in San Rafael which I am really looking forward to and so is Lindy."

Here's an update from Tom on Tuesday, 5/8:

Just wanted to drop a quick note and give a little progress report on my little girl Lindy and me.

We are working out great together and she is really taking to me as her handler. She is very easily distracted by other dogs and sometimes birds but this will be something that I have to work on a bit, and I can tell you all that I have made great progress in those fields. Her guide work is tremendous and for a young dog she knows her stuff!

The WX has been quite warm out here the past few days with temperatures in the high 80s and low 90s with lots of sunshine, but it has been very dry with low humidity. At night it gets down in the low to mid 50s which makes for very pleasant sleeping. We haven't been hit by the power outages as of yet, thank goodness.

On Sunday I spent the afternoon lounging around the pool while Lindy relaxed in our room keeping nice and cool with the air conditioner. You see they don't want the dogs out by poolside because they may get too excited and the main thing here is control of your dog.

Today we are going down to San Francisco to Union and Lombard Streets to work in the big city which should be fun.

Sure miss all of you and can't wait to get back and get on the air again. So, KD2UJ and the Roosters, DE W3KGL with "Lucky Lindy Lou". Wishing you all a best 73 from Sunny California, "The Land of fruits and nuts."
