Our ROOSTER WEEKEND activities are scheduled for JUNE 19-21. For the second time in two consecutive years we will be gathering for our annual picnic with heavy heart, the United States is participating in a war that will cause our people to pause and give thanks for our freedom. With the extent of the personnel that have been called to duty you probably know someone or have a relative standing guard for our country's freedom. By the time we gather for our picnic weekend we hope and pray that the enemy has been defeated and our country's men and women are spared any harm and are on their way home. This year is a very important time in the history of the United States so please stand up for our freedom, everyone please come join us at the site of George Washington's encampment during our country's fight for freedom from England. God bless our troops and God bless America!! The McIntosh Motel in King of Prussia will again be the hotel of choice; Jim K3CHJ has made the arrangements. You should call directly to make your reservations as soon as possible; the special group rate should be requested by identifying you as part of the "Rooster Picnic", Group #1401 -Rooster Picnic. Room rate per day is $74.00 single or double. The toll free number is 1-800-444-2775; the direct number is 610-768-9500. Other hotels in the King of Prussia area are Motel 6 (1-800-466-8356), and the Holiday Inn (1-800-465-4329). Our Thursday night host and hostess, Fred, W3PHL and Bobbie WB3EAO (HR#1) once again have graciously agreed to host the opening event scheduled for 8 P.M. on Thursday, June 19th on top of Valley Forge Mountain. This is the time to meet and greet friends, make new acquaintances and renew old friendships. Fred and Bobbie supply the refreshments and we would like to say thanks for the hospitality by having a great attendance. Our golf chairman Jim, K3CHJ, again chose Valley Forge Golf Club (site of first Rooster Golf Open) for the course this year. It is much closer to our base station (4/10 mile). Friday begins with tee off time at 9:00 AM for all the "golfers". Pros and duffers alike come out and enjoy the companionship of your fellow Roosters and take advantage of the great outdoors. This year we will be having some competitive play, closest to the pin etc. on a few greens. Coffee and Danish/donuts will be at the course parking lot and even if you're not playing golf, come out to wish the golfers well prior to tee-off. Golfers feel free to organize your foursomes or come out to the course to team up with other Roosters. (Green fees are $25.00 with a cart. Fees will not be collected in advanced, they will be payable at the course on the 20th.) Hopefully this year Mother Nature will be kinder to us and we can get out for fun and exercise. For all the "Golf Widows" waiting for the evening festivities and for their husbands to return from golf, a trip to the King of Prussia Mall might be in order. If you're at the McIntosh Motel, it's within walking distance or form a carpool with the other interested ladies. The Friday afternoon gathering at The Chief Rooster, Walt and Donna's home in King of Prussia is scheduled from 1:30 PM till 4:00PM so everyone can get ready for our evening adventures. If you haven't attended the "Open House" in the last several years you missed some great conversation and companionship. With all the snow and rain we have had over the winter Donna's gardens will be in glorious June bloom and as usual promises to be spectacular. Come join us. All golfers should be able to make it since you they are playing just down the street!!! Our new location for the "formal" activity will be the Sheraton Park Ridge Hotel & Convention Center, Valley Forge, just 7/10 of a mile from your hotel. Our Friday evening festivities are scheduled to begin at 6:00 with Happy Hour (cash bar) until 7:00 to accommodate an earlier and more convenient time for all to enjoy our annual banquet. Dinner will be served at 7:00 sharp, please indicate your selection on the attached page with your name, call sign, guest's name and choice of entr‚e on the Reservation Sheet. All reservations for the banquet should be received no later than June 14th. We will only be able to accommodate a very few additional reservations on the 20th. Dress once again will be jacket and tie for the gentlemen and appropriate attire for our ladies. Our goal is to keep the cost down, but not sacrifice the quality of the food. You have a choice of: (1) beef, (2) chicken, (3) or vegetarian. All entr‚es are priced at $25.00. Dinner will be served with a field green salad, seasonal vegetable, roasted red potatoes and Chief's choice dessert. The really big event that you all have been waiting for will be at the same location, the Valley Forge Fire House Picnic Grounds. Any Rooster that would like to lend Myrtle and Glenn a hand in the set-up process should be there by 8:00 (donuts will be provided for the workers). We will also need volunteers for clean-up after the picnic. Picnic chairman this year is Ken W3IPK and he promises a good time will be had by all. The fun is scheduled to start at 9:00 and continues till 4 P.M. We will have hotdogs for those who need something to hold them over till the big spread is served. Again, Paul (WD4EBA) will sponsor a swap table for any unwanted radio item that you bring along for "free shopping". In addition to the "swap shopping" table, we will have a prize table manned by Paul (N3CYO) and Carolyn; new "prize" donations will be greatly appreciated. Myrtle will have all her Rooster items (tee shirts, hats and pins) available for purchase. And of course, on the agenda is the annual "crow-in", the horse shoe tournament (weather permitting), the always fun Rooster Photo, and the 50/50 drawing (to help defray some of the weekends costs). The Rooster of the Year will be announced and we will discuss upcoming events. This year's cost for the day of food and fun is $22.00 and children under twelve will be $3.00. Please indicate on the Reservation Sheet the number of reservations and indicate children and age (for age appropriate gift). Fred, W3PHL wants to remind you to bring your QSL Cards to the picnic for the photo board.
