John Farthing, W3BDR, now a silent key

It is with sadness that I report that John Farthing, W3BDR, passed away September 16th. He had held Rooster #1104 since December 7, 2001. Hal, K3ATO, sent us this obituary:

John Farthing, 61, Blandon, died of natural causes Sept. 16 in Reading Hospital.

He was the husband of Andre L. (Nofsker) Farthing.

Born in Chesterfield, England, he was a son of Joyce Pannell, Pottstown, and the late Harry Farthing.

He worked as a tile setter for Interstate Tile & Mantle, Harrisburg.

Farthing attended Neshaminy High School, Feasterville, Bucks County, until his military enlistment in 1961.

He served in the Navy in the Vietnam War at the rank of E5. He also served during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

He is also survived by two daughters, April L. Farthing, at home; and Elizabeth Farthing, Pottstown.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.

The memorial service for W3BDR, John Farthing, will be held at noon on Saturday, October 21, 2006 at "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints" located at 190 Kohler Road, Kutztown, PA.
