It is with great sadness that we have to report that Garland (AE4VT) died on
Tuesday morning, January 6. He had been getting weaker over the past month,
and then within two days weakened rapidly. He died peacefully at about 11:40 in
the morning.

The Roosters meant a lot to him. Garland really enjoyed hearing the recordings
of the messages everyone sent him on Garland day last year. We know that the one
thing he missed the most in the nursing home was his radio. One of his favorite
caretakers knows code, and frequently he and Garland would communicate by talking
in dits and dahs. It puzzled many of the people who heard them, but they both enjoyed it.
